1. Who we are and why we breed Maine Coon Cats

LoonyCoons is a small german/american cattery. We live with our cats and our son in a 2 family house on the outskirts of Berlin. Although being "breeders" we can not allow our felines to run freely in the wild. We try to compensate with a big, especially furnished balcony, just for the cats and plenty of play time with Mom and Dad.

It is our goal to preserve this special cat in it´s original ways. The native Maine Coon is precious in every aspect, beautiful without extremes, sturdy, healthy and strong with no need of overbreeding, intelligent, friendly and affactionate by nature and last but not least: always a special, entertaining friend to it´s people.

Our love for this beautiful, friendly and lovable race was kindled not by a pedigreed, bred Maine Coon, but by a wild, skinny, lonely kitten in Maine, who had noone and nothing. Although we were for vacation in Maine for just a few weeks we decided to take the poor kitty in, took him to the vet, who told us that this was a "Coon Cat", had him wormed and vaccinated and - took him to Germany. Our little adopted boy, being about 16 weeks old, was officially named "Stoner Birdbane" for his color and exceptional hunting talents but for the way he would look at us, all happy and thankful for food and hugs, soon ended up being called "Pooh".

Back home came the surprise that there was actually a breed "Maine Coon". Since we had no idea about Pooh´s heritage and ancestry there was no way of thinking about breeding with him so we began to look around for breeders and catteries in Europe. We immediately realized the big difference between the Coon cats of Maine and the Show Maine Coons. With further trips to Maine, contact with Maine Foundation Catteries, visits at a few shows and meeting show-line Maine Coons our decision to breed Maine Coons with foundation, even wildstock cats was made.
